My Story

A woman with glasses smiling while sitting at a wooden table in a restaurant with large windows and greenery outside. She is wearing a colorful floral top, a smartwatch, and a ring, and appears to be enjoying a cup of coffee.

Kia ora!

I’m Cassie, and I graduated from my Masters in Marine Conservation in 2013. My career & studies in marine biology has taken me from volunteer work on the beaches in Coasta Rica, studies in the coral reefs of Australia, hopping over rock pools, monitoring sea life from fishing vessels in remote locations, and working to protect our from environment from invasive critters. Having a strong scientific background, I had assumed for years that I wouldn’t have a creative bone in my body. However, now that I have taken the time to slow down and be kind to myself, I have discovered this whole new world.

You can see those years I have spent learning about our oceans continue to inspire much of the artwork that I create. I feel particularly lucky drawn to the ocean and the native landscapes that we are lucky to be surrounded in here in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Creating with my hands brings me a sense of balance, and I hope my pieces offer that same gentle moment for the people who hold them. I hope I can share this joy with you now - whether it’s an original painting, a print, or a functional ceramic piece, I want my art to brighten everyday life. I consider myself succesful if my art brings a smile to someone’s face or a moment of calm to their day.

Please see the galleries for some examples of my work , and be my print pal if you want to be the first to get new work!

XOXO
